Frequently asked questions for Stephanie Bond
FAQs
Q: How many books have been released in the BODY MOVERS series?
Stephanie: To date, there are six official books in the BODY MOVERS series published by Mira: Body Movers, 2 Bodies for the Price of 1, 3 Men and a Body, 4 Bodies and a Funeral, 5 Bodies to Die For, and 6 Killer Bodies. The book Party Crashers (which was published by a different publisher) is the “pre-quel” to the BODY MOVERS series but is out of print; I'm working right now to get Party Crashers back out as an ebook.
Q: Will there be more books in the BODY MOVERS series past book 6?
Stephanie: First let me make it clear that authors have no say-so as to how long a series lasts--none…nada…zippo--or when books are released. Those decisions are made by our employers, namely, our publishers. And it all comes down to the number of NEW books purchased when a book is released. (Used books don’t count because neither the publisher nor the author makes money on the sale of a used book--none…nada…zippo. So the best way to support an author whose books you love is to buy their books new and don't download pirated copies of eBooks.) Believe me, the author is the LAST person who wants to leave readers hanging, so please don’t get mad at us if books aren’t released in a way that makes sense to you. Trust me, it doesn’t always make sense to us, either.
The delay in scheduling books 7 and 8 was due to a pending decision about a potential TV series. (Fingers still crossed!) But the series WILL continue.
I've outlined an e-novella and 2 more BODY MOVERS books. At this point, the e-novella "Six and a Half Body Parts" will be released in late 2011 as a download. I'm hoping that book 7 (Seven Bodies for Seven Brides) will be released in 2012, but fyi, it might also be available only as a digital download. And know that I SO appreciate your interest and support! Readership for this series has grown not because my publisher has gotten the word out in a big way, but because you, the readers, have told friends about it! So…thank you from the bottom of my heart.
(In the mean time, check out the fan fiction sight for BODY MOVERS www.bodymoversfanfiction.com where you read stories readers have written about the BODY MOVERS characters and submit stories of your own!)
Q: How many books are in your “voodoo” series and will there be more?
Stephanie: Sigh…okay, here’s yet more proof that things in the book business don’t always make sense: The first book in the voodoo series is In Deep Voodoo. In the back of that book, the sequel was advertised as Voodoo or Die. BUT my publishing house decided AFTER book 2 had been advertised to change the title to Finding Your Mojo. (I know, I know--my original title was better and sort of went along with the whole “voodoo” theme I was going for.) Which resulted, as one might guess, in much confusion among readers looking for book 2. Then after book 2 didn’t sell as well as my publisher had hoped (surprise, surprise), plans for books 3 and 4 were put on hold, leaving readers hanging, I’m sorry to say.
(With some of the poor decisions made in this business, it’s as if publishers don’t WANT to sell books.)
The GOOD news is I recently got the rights back to both books and will be re-releasing them as eBooks. And since I now have control of the series, I will be self-publishing the next two books in the series, Voodoo You Love? and Voodoo Diaries sometime in 2012. Q: How long does it take you to write a book?
Stephanie: 2-3 months, depending on the length of the book and how much life interferes. I will say that I’d rather write a book quickly, while I’m still enthusiastic about the idea, instead of dragging it out. In other words, the longer it takes for me to write a book, the longer it takes for me to write a book!
Q: Have you ever thought about turning your books into movies?
Stephanie: Only every waking hour. But that decision is out of my hands--I have a film agent who represents the film rights of my books. He circulates my books to interested parties, and I hold my breath…well, not really because I would’ve already asphyxiated by now. But I’m still hopeful that a producer or influential actor will fall in love with one of my books enough to want to bring it to life.
Q: What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Stephanie: Stop talking about writing a novel and stop thinking about writing a novel and just do it! See the Writers’ Pages for more advice. And good luck!
